Winner, The Preston Road’s Women’s Centre, Hull

This project is for women only, aged 16 upwards, many of whom are survivors of domestic abuse. The project supports them to build skills, knowledge and experience providing them with the confidence to navigate other agencies and systems to overcome barriers, including access to childcare, improved employability by training and volunteering, transition to job seeking and into paid work.

Activities include courses in understanding abusive relationships, self-development, assertiveness, maintaining a tenancy, familiarity with a work environment, basic skills, communication skills, personal presentation, CV development and interview skills using a range of teaching methods including digital skills and practical experience.

Leading to a NOCN level 2 Award in Employability, the project's training links directly to its volunteer opportunities providing learners with access to voluntary roles in its innovative health and social care setting. It also offers experience in retail, reception, support work, supporting learners, DIY and maintenance.
