People and Drugs (Silx Teen Bar Employability Project)

Silx Teen Bar Employability Project has been providing employability services to young people in Blyth for 25 years.

They are the only Blyth voluntary sector provider that targets young people aged 16 to 24 from deprived and marginalised backgrounds. They provide a wrap-around service designed to support young people who are not in employment, education, or training and require support with employability and personal issues.

On average, they work with between 250 and 300 individual young people each year, who have been referred by schools, job centres, social services, and other training providers, as well as self-referrals.

The  project offers of support includes one-to-one individual support, covering every aspect of employability, from CV preparation to job applications. They also provide training, accredited opportunities, and work experience, plus information, advice, and guidance on personal issues relating to health and well-being, debt, housing, and finance, as well as referrals to relevant organisations.
